Jury rules and procedures
In the semi-final round the jury will asses each performance using a 25 point scale.
The judging sheets must be signed and turned in to the Trustee at the end of each day.
At the conclusion of the semifinal round the trustee will tally the vote. INDIVIDUAL VOTES WHICH DEVIATE FROM AVERAGE BY MORE THAN 3 POINTS WILL BE BROUGHT UP OR DOWN TO THE NEAREST NUMERICAL VALUE OF THE VOTE WHICH DID NOT EXCEED THE 3 POINTS LIMIT. WITH THAT NEW NUMBER , A NEW AVERAGE WILL BE CALCULATED.
The trustee will announce the six highest rankings. In case of a pianist in 7th or 8th place receiving a very close number to the 6th, adding those pianists to the finals will be considered, without names. After that decision is made names will be revealed without the numbers or placement, just in alphabetical order.
At that point the Jury will approve the list by majority. If majority is not achieved, a vote will be taken: each juror will provide a list of 6 ( or 7 or 8 ) names of pianists who should proceed to the finals. The list naturally should include as many names from the original list as each juror agrees with. The vote will be repeated until majority decision is reached.
After the final round the jury will vote for the first prize by name in a secret ballot. There will be no points. The prize is decided by majority . Similar procedure will apply to all the other prizes in order of the second, third, best performance of Paderewski , best performance of contemporary work.
The vote and the judging procedures will be made public at the conclusion of the competition
Judges are discouraged from familiarizing themselves with the biographical information of the contestants until the conclusion of the competition.
Judges are discouraged from discussing the performances with other judges. Contact with contestants, audience members , pianists’ family or host family members etc. is not allowed until after the announcement of the winners.
